A Not-for-profit-company
Background
A not-for-profit company that has contracts with the local council to provide specific services had recognised its weaknesses and was receptive to change. They had already produced a diversity action plan
What was done?
In the HR Healthcheck the diversity specialist reviewed all current policies, procedures and data relating to the Human Resources functions including interviews with staff.
An interim report was produced to give an assessment of the company's current performance as an equal opportunities employer. Recommendations for future actions were given with information on areas of good practice from other companies.
What was the Outcome?
Recommendations included: to carry out an accurate staff census, establishing meaningful service monitoring, to improve internal awareness of the company's commitment to diversity, and to identify diversity champions amongst trustees and senior management.
The company implemented the majority of the recommendations in their HR practices including:
- Revised HR policies and procedures that incorporated the consultants' recommendations.
- Review of the HR data collected on staff to provide a baseline of staff demographics (eg. age, ethnicity) to measure change over time.
- Company wide commitment to Equality and Diversity rather than HR focus.
