Hotel group

Background

Two hotels from an international hotel group took part. One hotel was based in the west London area near Heathrow Airport and another just outside of the area. They employ a wide range of people, mainly recruiting from a fairly local area. Prior to their involvement the HR team had been interested in diversity issues and ways to break down barriers for ethnic minorities to progress through the company.

The company wanted to use the HR Healthcheck to implement effective systems to monitor diversity performance within the areas of recruitment and retention, access to training and promotions. As well as monitoring if the workforce reflected the demographics of the local communities.

What was done?

  • Review of relevant policies, procedures and data covering staff recruitment, training and development.
  • 1:1 interviews with senior and middle management alongside discussion with staff focus groups.
  • Assessment of the Hotel's current performance as a fair employer.
What was the outcome?
  • The recommendations for amending the EO policies were sent to the hotel groups' working party via their head office.
  • The company regards that the recruitment recommendations have produced a more objective and fair method evaluate candidates and compare against specifications. By improving the quality of the recruitment process this has led to equal treatment of both internal and external candidates to ensure fair treatment to all parties.
