Background to West London Equal Development Partnership - Action 2

The programme delivered three projects:

  1. Embracing Equality, aimed at employers, centred on an 'HR Healthcheck'. This offered companies 10 days free consultancy from a diversity specialist who reviewed Human Resource (HR) policies and procedures with the aim of promoting equality and diversity within the organisation. 2. Accelerate into Work activity targeted 200 unemployed residents in the West London area. The project aimed to improve employability and promote the benefits of learning. Beneficiaries were recruited through community and voluntary sector organisations and placed on tailored training courses delivered in local colleges. A feature of the project was its flexibility in meeting clients' needs, and the availability of a training allowance (£480) for each beneficiary that completed the training course. Importantly, in recognising their key role in engagement and outreach, the community and voluntary sector organisations were funded to provide one-to-one support for beneficiaries during and after the tailored training and to help progress participants into further learning or work. 3. Career Climb aimed to test models for up-skilling 20 existing employees in low skilled jobs and 15 job-ready beneficiaries from the Accelerate into Work programme. The project sought to develop flexible job trial activities within local private sector companies engaged through the Embracing Equality project.
